We left Los Angeles at 3:10 PM Friday.
We flew on Qatar Airways for the first time, it just started flying to Los
Angeles Jan 1st. It was a 16-hour flight to Doha, where we had a 2
hour layover. From Doha it was then on to Mumbai, a relatively short 3 hour
flight. We arrived at 2am. By the time we cleared customs, exchanged dollars
for Rupees and were driven to town by the representative from the Taj Mahal
Palace and finally checked in it was 4am. It is now definitely time for a
sleeping pill and sleep.
The seats on the Qatar 777 are not as wide as the seats on
Singapore Airlines. But they were much easier to convert into a bed. We ate
very little but I had few glasses of wine followed by a sleeping pill and slept
like a lamb. I don’t usually watch movies by they were showing Bridge of Spies.
Tom Hanks was great in it and it was perfectly viewing when I heard about the Iranian Prisoner swap announced today. Life imitates art. Qatar gives very soft and nice Pajamas to their
Business Flyers. I really liked changing out of my travel clothes and for the
duration of the flight being in PJ’s. Nice touch Qatar!
The airline projects on the wall an arrow at all times
pointing to Mecca so that people could align themselves correctly for prayer.
Actually lying flat on the bed on an airplane looking straight up is sort of
properly aligned with heaven anyway.
